Now, this isn't going to work well if you're 6'6" and have 8' ceilings. But what about 9' ceilings?

This approach is not for every project, but for this one - it worked into the design well.

When we are dealing with a low load home, we often use ducted mini splits and this is a great use of space for us.

We had a great training session yesterday with Gre

We had a great training session yesterday with Greater Rochester Habitat for Humanity!!

Many volunteers, who devote their time for such a great cause, were able to witness a pre-drywall blower door test. The process was eye opening for some, and now they can better plan and sequence air tightness in to the homes they build.

Matt Bowers and Jonathan Finewood were on-site to lead the way in identifying air leaks in the envelope.

The house was nearly passing code levels of air tightness without any drywall on the walls when we were done. The final test will be a slam dunk!

When optimizing a detail for a client, we can do it fast and easy. FLIXO has the ability to grab specific objects and move them in and out so we can reach our desired parameters instantly.

Do we really need 8" of mineral wool on this parapet detail to achieve an fRsi of 0.75?

No - we only need 2"!

Being able to isolate and move certain objects together when we are refining a detail saves us time. It took me longer to type out this post than it did to set up the parameters of the model.

On this particular detail (and countless others), we saved the project a lot of upfront carbon, labor and material before the job even started.

Another 3D tour video so you can SEE the Drain Water Heat Exchanger in the Rochester Passive house!! So, there is a drain line coming from the upstairs bath tubs where a series of cold water copper lines wrap around a copper pipe. As the hot water ventures down the drain, it pre-heats that cold water coil wrapped around the drain line. The pre-heated water can go a few different places from here. It can go down to the water heater where less energy is needed to bring it up to the hot water temperature AND it can go to the shower cold tap where less hot water is required to desired temperature. It’s a #Frosty morning in the Rochester Passive House! That frost is on the outside because the exterior pane is colder than a conventional window. It’s the mark of a great window and will melt once the sun rises. The frost appears on the middle of the window because unlike the frame edges, there is very little heat flow from the glass due to radiation heat loss from the night sky.
